Primary schools where the arts form an integral part of the curriculum.
In an arts magnet school [Kunstmagneetschool] arts education is intensive and forms an integral part of the curriculum. Pupils discover and develop their creative and social-emotional sides, also in relation to others. After school activities supplement the arts magnet programme.
Some schools offer activities in a wide range of arts disciplines, while others focus on just one discipline.
The schools develop a continuous learning path for a particular subject area. For example, if a school decides to dedicate itself to music, the learning path determines which learning materials relating to music the pupils are presented with in the course of their school careers.
Together with cultural institutions, arts magnet schools specify which cultural activities are most appropriate for the learning path in question.
There are approximately 20 arts magnet primary schools in the Netherlands.
