Full description

A brede school is an active network of external institutions or partners (e.g. sports or cultural organisations) from several sectors around one or more schools who form an alliance for a common goal: the broad development of pupils in school and leisure time. The schools seek to broaden the learning in school by establishing durable cooperation aimed at creating open, versatile and strong personalities and to develop a broad living and learning environment that stimulates all children to gain a wide range of experiences.

Basic principles of a community school are:

  • participation through collective decision making among all partners and participants;
  • diversity in population, activities and composition of the alliance;
  • connecting activities in order to stimulate a broad development, inside and outside school learning.

These networks offer more opportunities for a significant extramural children's shelter. A brede school stimulates a perfect transition from day-care to school and enhances the participation of all pupils in social and cultural life. In other words, a brede school brings the school and the personal life of pupils closer to each other.
