Participation in European programmes

Cultural and educational institutions in Austria participate in a number of European cooperation programmes.

The National Agency on Lifelong Learning and the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture [Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur]provide information and consulting for stakeholders who wish to apply for funding. There is no incentive subsidy scheme to stimulate international project work. Nevertheless, counting the number of projects funded by the European programme Culture (2007-2013), Austria held the 3rd position of 34 countries in 2009. 11 cooperation projects were organised by Austrian institutions; in 19 projects Austrian cultural institutions acted as co-organisers.(Source: Kulturbericht 2009, BMUKK) Advisory service The European Lifelong Learning programme Grundtvig is explicitly inviting NGOs and adult education agencies, to submit project proposals. But in many cases their infrastructure and personal capacities are insufficient to run a big project alongside day-to-day duties. The National agency for Lifelong Learning assists applicants and organises information days on different programmes. Cultural Contact Point Austria is the helpdesk for the programme Culture. It organises workshops for applicants and individual advisory service. The Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture supports the internet portal Europe encourages Culture [Europa fördert Kultur]. It was established in 2009 by Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e.V. (Germany). The website provides comprehensive information on more than 40 EU programmes relevant for culture. It is designed especially for cultural institutions, associations and cultural workers, artists, communities, regional administration as well as companies working in creative industry. It consists of 3 partners, the intercultural centre [Interkulturelles Zentrum - IZ], the institute of pedagogy at the University of Innsbruck [Institut für Erziehungswissenschaften der Universität Innsbruck] and the Austrian consortium for regional development [ÖAR Regionalentwicklung]. The work of the agency is commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth and the European Commission.(Source: bmwfj.gv.at/Jugend)
